Colorism

Gabrielle Union states it perfectly in her book ("We're Going To Need More Wine"), colorism is “an age-old ‘us against us’ oversimplification, that boils down to the belief that the lighter your skin tone, the more valuable and worthy you are. The standard of beauty and intelligence, that has historically been praised by the oppressor, has been adopted by the oppressed.”

So, if you haven't seen episode 10 of season 5 of Black-ish, watch it now! Although there is so much more to say about colorism, Black-ish tackles a tough topic in its short 22 minutes.
