Dear White People,
Before all of this happened, I was invisible to you. You never responded to my "good morning!" as we passed each other on the street. You never said "excuse me" as you bumped into me at the grocery store. You never looked my way as you ran or biked passed my house. You never returned the smile that I always had on my face whenever I saw you. Before all of this happened, I was invisible to you.
Yesterday, I crossed the street to check my mail, and as you biked passed you waved and yelled "hi!". Last week, when I braved the chaos of the grocery store, you smiled at me and made small talk. This morning, when I went outside to get some sunshine, you called out "good morning! how are you?". Before all of this happened, I was invisible to you. And as awful as all of this has been, I am grateful...because now, you see me.
